Introduction

　　The Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was founded in August 1992 in New York City and registered in New York State as a non-political and non-profit professional organization. The majority of CAST members hold advanced degrees in science and technology, education, business, law, medicine, art and other fields of endeavor. CAST is growing at a rapid pace with more than thousands of members in more than 30 states across the United States, working in universities, industries, government agencies and other sectors. CAST is now one of the most-recognized organizations among Chinese professionals in the United States. It is the leading institution dedicated to the promotion of understanding between Americans and ethnic Chinese in the United States. Since its foundation, CAST has established strong ties with the scientific and technological communities both in the United States and in China.

　　Purpose

　　To promote academic exchanges and professional development of its members;

　　To serve as a "bridge" between the United States and China for both personnel and information exchanges, and for the cooperation in science and technology, economic, trade and other areas;

　　To promote friendships and communications among members and to enhance greater understanding of Chinese traditional culture in the United States.

　　Activities

　　To organize seminars and conferences in various professional areas and to organize exchange programs between the American and Chinese people.

　　To establish cooperative relations with American corporations, enterprises, institutions and organizations, to create favorable conditions and environment for cooperation between the American and Chinese people in seeking funds, market development, technology transfer and investment opportunities between the United States and China.

　　To organize special activities for increased interaction among its members to facilitate exchanges of information and expertise in their fields.

　　Publications

　　CAST Communications is a newsletter distributed to its members providing information and activities of common interest. CAST also publishes a Trade Winds -The magazine of Chinese professionals, which discusses the common problems that CAST members are concerned with, introduces outstanding Chinese professionals in the United States and reports on state-of-the-art development of science and technology.
